On March 7, 2017, U.S. Ambassador James D. Melville Jr. and Estonian Minister of Environment Marko Pomerants open an educational exhibit on marine pollution at the Energy Discovery Center, a Tallinn science museum providing hands-on science education programming. A collaborative effort from the U.S. Embassy, Estonia’s Ministry of Environment, and the European Commission, the exhibit aimed to raise awareness about the problem of plastics pollution, describe the impact of plastics on the ocean environment, and provide examples of simple actions individuals can take at home to prevent plastic from ending up in the sea and threatening global food supplies, habitat, and recreational areas.
