The U.S. and the Three Baltic States Sign Partnership Charter

U.S. President Bill Clinton, Estonian President Lennart Meri, Latvian President Guntis Ulmanis, and Lithuanian President Algirdas Brazauskas sign the U.S.-Baltic Charter on January 16, 1998 in Washington D.C. The Charter of Partnership enshrines the United States’ “real, profound, and enduring interest in the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and security” of the three Baltic countries.
