Estonian Children’s Summer Camp Opens on Long Island

Published by

Suvekodu, an Estonian Children’s Summer Camp located in Long Island, New York, opens in the summer of 1955. The camp continues the Estonian “laager” tradition in the United States and gives children with Estonian backgrounds living overseas an opportunity to learn about their culture and maintain their heritage and identity while also having some summer fun. Other children’s camps such as J√§rvemetsa in New Jersey open in the coming years and remain active today.
