The United States of America and the Republic of Estonia officially established diplomatic relations on July 28, 1922. Since that time, the U.S. and Estonia have maintained continuous official relations, even throughout the Soviet Union’s illegal occupation of Estonia.
Today, the United States and Estonia are strong partners and committed NATO Allies. Our two countries work together to enhance Transatlantic security, promote democratic ideals, and encourage economic development through entrepreneurship and innovation. In international fora, the United States and Estonia promote collaboration to address global and regional challenges. The United States of America has maintained continuous official diplomatic relations with the Republic of Estonia since July 28, 1922. Though the U.S. Mission to Estonia was forced to close in 1940, the United States refused to recognize the forcible incorporation of Estonia into the Soviet Union. Estonian diplomats and consular representatives have maintained a continuous presence in the United States since 1920.
